Formed as a creative and collaborative response to the systematic disappearance of dedicated and location specific analysis, KinoTopia seeks to provide rigorous analysis of films playing in and around Melbourne. With the increasing prevalence of fast-journalism and hot-take clickbait KinoTopia seeks to curb this craze by emphasising long form and thought-provoking writing on a single film that is screening in our city. KinoTopia is dedicated to the promotion of both local and international cinema screening in the city of Melbourne and its surrounds. It is a weekly film newsletter where we invite writers, filmmakers and cinephiles to cover a single arthouse, repertory, art, short form or experimental film screening in the city of Melbourne that cinematic week (Thursday to Wednesday).
